Fur-kids and Fuzz-butts
Part of the TwoDog philosophy is that life is better with animals.
So we have lots of animals.
***Parents, take note: If you stifle your kids’ love of animals, they will end up with MORE animals. (and one more reason to hate you in their memoirs)
So yes, underage reader, you can have that puppy! You can have that kitty! You can have that two-toed sloth! TwoDog said so. You read it on the internet, it must be true.
That’s right, off you go…wake up mom and dad. Don’t worry–they will just be relieved you weren’t surfing porn.
Reaching out to other beings and sharing our experience is what we are here to do. Animals too.
We make our animals a part of our lives and try to include them in everything we can. We choose where we shop and where we eat, by who will welcome our animals.
….And happily, most place do.
As a pet owner, we feel its our responsibility to try to uplift our animals, and give them the best life we can–to bring them into our lives, and share the best parts of our world with them.
Here’s the roster:
Charlie: Canis Familiaris (Border Collie, age 12) Charlie came to me as a foster who never went home. Was shot (!) by previous owner, before owner’s son turned him in at the shelter. (evidently he wouldn’t quit trying to herd everything–if you can imagine) Favorite things: swimming, belly rubs, motorcycle rides, belly rubs, sugar gliders, belly rubs….and of course, belly rubs.
Chelsea: Canis Familiaris (Border Collie, age 7) Chelsea was presumably a trucker’s dog who was dumped in the plains of eastern Colorado. A sad story too often repeated. We think she was a truckers dog, because she goes crazy for (among other things) big diesel trucks. She tries to get in them. Annoying for the garbage man, and problematic when refueling at trucks stops. Loves rock and roll, sugar gliders, TV violence, and bike rides.
Yoda: Petaurus Breviceps (Sugar Glider, age 1)
Winky: Petaurus Breviceps (Sugar Glider, age 1)
Arrow: Petaurus Breviceps (Sugar Glider, age 2) Eldest Son of Sugar Squadron. Loves kung-fu, sci-fi, girls and rock-and-roll. Hates ninja turtles
Athena: Petaurus Breviceps (Sugar Glider, age 2) Youngest Daughter of Sugar Squadron. Loves snuggling, fresh fruit, the internet, and moonlight walks through the treetops.
Mrs. Frisby: Petaurus Breviceps (Sugar Glider, age 3) Matriarch of Sugar Squadron. Mate of Justin, Mother of Arrow and Athena. Enjoys, chicken, dog drool, and the taste of human blood.
Justin: Petaurus Breviceps (Sugar Glider, age 3) Patriarch of Sugar Squadron, Mate to Mrs. Frisby, Father of Arrow and Athena. Daddy’s Boy. Loves sweatshirt hoods, Yogurt Treats and snuggling.
This is our current roster. If we find animals in need, we help them. Sometimes this might mean we have to rescue an animal, or perhaps even foster it.
No species left behind.
PS: Many thanks to my personal hero, Steve Irwin, for showing me how to love a crocodile. We have to love every species for what they are–not for what *we* think they should be. It’s a dream of mine to one day meet/work with the Irwin family.
PPS: Ok, you don’t literally “love” a crocodile…you sickos. Get your mind out of the gutter.
Dear reader: If we can reach across the bounds of SPECIES, and find love in animals–can it be that much harder to reach across the bounds of nation, race, creed or sex, and find acceptance of each other? Humans are not born to hate. It’s a learned behavior that we have taught ourselves over the centuries–and we pass it down to our children. We can choose to stop.
If you want practice–there are animals waiting, who would give anything for your love.
